Eden

Eden is a conceptual book design project inspired by Gates of Eden, a collection of short stories by Ethan Coen. The project translates narrative tone, humor, and character into a series of physical book objects, using visual metaphors rather than literal illustration.

Each cover is built around an everyday object that plays a meaningful role within the stories—food, luggage, cameras—items that feel familiar, mundane, and slightly absurd. These objects are rendered as paper-like constructions, emphasizing their fragility and theatricality, echoing the stories’ balance between humor and quiet tension.

Typography and composition are intentionally bold yet restrained. Hand-drawn lettering contrasts with clean layouts, reinforcing the informal, character-driven nature of the writing. Color is used as an emotional cue rather than decoration, shifting between warmth, nostalgia, and irony.

Behind the Design

Eden explores how graphic design can interpret narrative rather than illustrate it. By translating key story elements into everyday objects and physical book forms, the project reflects the humor, irony, and quiet tension found in the text. Each cover acts as a visual interpretation—inviting readers to engage with the stories through material and metaphor.
